René Legrand was a pupil of the École des Arts Décoratifs from 1941 to 1942 and in 1943 joined the Académie de la Grande Chaumière in Paris. He received advice from Alfred Manessier and the Argentinian sculptor Sesotris Vitullo. He exhibited in Paris at the Salon de Mai from 1949 and had a solo show in Paris in
