Born 1734, in Valenciennes; died 1797, in Paris.

Painter, watercolourist, engraver. History painting, genre scenes, landscapes, seascapes.

Lemay studied under Loutherbourg. He visited Italy and became a member of the Académie de Valenciennes in 1785. He exhibited at the Salon in 1791 and 1796. His colour-sense was excellent and he was a good draughtsman. In addition, he painted in gouache.
