Lione was taught by Corenzio, who he replaced as painter to the Viceroy of Naples, and Salvator Rosa. His style and choice of subjects are reminiscent of the Genoese painter Giovanni Benedetto Castiglione, while his battle scenes suggest the influence of Aniello Falcone.
