Antonio López García was the nephew of Antonio López Torres, the painter-chronicler of the village of Tomelloso. He trained at the Real Academia de Bellas Artes de San Fernando in Madrid where he won several awards for his mastery of a technique inspired by the objective realism of Zurbaran.
