After secondary school, Petar Lubarda studied painting in Belgrade, in 1925, and then, in 1926, enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris. He dropped out but he remained in Paris for six years, until 1932. He began to exhibit in 1927, at the Salon des Indépendants, and
