Thomas Luny studied under Francis Holman in London. He exhibited at the Royal Academy in London from 1780 to 1802. He served in the Royal Navy during the Napoleonic Wars and retired to Teignemouth in 1807. He specialised in naval battle scenes, tempered seascapes and views of the
