Magne studied at the École Municipale des Beaux-Arts in Poitiers, then under Cabanel and James Bertrand in Paris and Monginot and Jules Lefèbvre. He exhibited at the Salon de Paris from 1879, mainly painting on earthenware. He became a member of the Société des
