A pupil of Canova, Pompeo Marchesi is remembered principally for his statues of King Carlo Emanuele in Novara, Alessandro Volta in Como and Goethe in Frankfurt. Marchesi sculpted two statues of Emperor Franz I of Austria, one for the imperial castle in Graz and the other, in collaboration with
