Ettore de Maria-Bergler lived and worked in Palermo, where in 1873 he exhibited canvases which were critically acclaimed. He studied under the well-known landscape painter Lo Iacono and completed his studies in Naples from 1877 to 1880, thanks in part to a scholarship from Baron Riso. In
