Maussion studied in Paris at the Institut d'Art et d'Archéologie, at the same time working on painting in the studios of first André Lhote and then Fernand Léger. From 1949, he attended the Abstract Art studio of Jean Dewasne and Edgar Pillet, during which time he evolved towards abstraction. He began in this style with paintings related to Geometric Abstraction,
