Altobello Melone's signature was followed by the letter V by which is thought to represent his native city; early biographers refer to him thus: Altobelo da Melone, Painter from Cremona. Among his engravings, the best remembered are: Four Cupids making Music and Four Cupids Dancing after Andrea Mantegna.
