A student of Pradier, David d'Angers, and Galle, he entered the École des Beaux-Arts on 2 October 1838. He won the Prix de Rome in 1843. He first exhibited at the Salon of 1840 and won medals in 1851 and 1867 at the Exposition Universelle. He was made
