Born c. 1618, in Hoamura (Awa), now Chiba, near Tokyo; died 1694, in Edo, now Tokyo.


Moronobu’s work left its mark on the whole history of Japanese engraving. He was probably one of the first artists of this genre to have a studio and to leave many pupils. Prior to this, master engravers were considered second-class artists and are therefore not mentioned
