Mouchot studied at the École des Beaux-Arts from 1847, under Michel Drolling and Jean-Hilaire Belloc. He exhibited at the Paris Salon from 1859 to 1879, winning medals in 1865, 1867 and 1868, and was made a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur in 1872.
