Arnold Newman studied at the University of Miami from 1936–1938. He first worked in commercial portrait studios in Philadelphia, Baltimore, and West Palm Beach. Newman developed his photographic perspective by photographing in a documentary style influenced by Walker Evans and Dorothea Lange.
