Nicias, a pupil of Antidotus, earned a considerable reputation for the nobility of his style and his choice of subjects. Praxiteles praised him very highly. Paintings by him include Odysseus Calling on the Shades of Death, a work for which Attalus, king of Pergamum, offered to pay 60 talents. Nicias preferred instead to offer it
