Born 7 May 1842, in Assens; died 11 May 1905, in Hillerød.

Painter, engraver (etching). Landscapes, genre scenes, flowers, seascapes.

Thorvald Niss was a pupil of Otto Bache at the Kunstakademi in Copenhagen. He exhibited in Munich, Hamburg, Berlin and Vienna, where he received a gold medal in 1882. He also received silver medals at the Expositions Universelles in Paris in 1889
