Jean Oberlé had a long career as an illustrator for the principal newspapers and magazines in Paris, and he illustrated some 20 books by contemporary authors - Colette, Cendrars, Anatole France, Courteline, Carco, Galtier-Boissière and others. In 1934 he was awarded the Blumenthal prize.
