Auguste Louis Marie Ottin was a pupil of David d'Angers. He came second in the Prix de Rome in 1833 and won it in 1836. He was awarded medals in 1842, 1846 and 1867, and was made a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur in 1867. He first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1841. His
