Born 1717, in London; died 7 March 1791, in London.

Painter, engraver (etching). Battles, seascapes.

As a young child Richard Paton was abandoned by his parents and taken off the streets by Admiral Knowles, who put him into the navy. Later he worked as a customs officer.

Paton exhibited at the Royal Academy and the Society of Artists from 1762 to 1780.
