Painter.

Ammi Phillips worked as an itinerant portraitist in New England. Having produced work in highly differing styles, he was firstly called the 'Border Limner' and then the 'Kent Limner'. Several of his works were incorrectly attributed to John Bradley. In 1812 his early works were characterised by clear, fine colouring, with graphic details emerging
