Piza began his painting apprenticeship at the age of 15 under the direction of Antonio Gomide. Around 1951, he moved to Paris, where he subsequently lived and worked. In the post-war Montparnasse area, he frequented the studio of the engraver Friedländer, learning the techniques of engraving
