German, 15th century, male.

Died 1494, in Nuremberg.

Engraver (wood), painter.

The son of Hans Pleydenwurff and one of the earliest woodcut engravers, he collaborated with Michael Wohlgemuth on woodcut engravings for the Nuremberg Chronicle compiled by Hermann Schedel and printed in 1494. Since Wohlgemuth married Hans Pleydenwurff's widow in 1473, it seems possible that Wohlgemuth may have had a young son who was subsequently taught by him.
