Painter, watercolourist, draughtsman, lithographer. Historical subjects, portraits.

Plockhorst was a pupil of Brande in Stuttgart and Piloty in Munich. In 1859, he was awarded a medal in Berlin, and in 1866 he taught at the art school in that city.
