Painter, engraver. History painting, portraits, landscapes.

Vasili Dmitrievich Polenov studied at the St Petersburg, Munich, Paris and Venice academies of fine art. He fought with Serbian partisans against the Turks in 1876. He created the 'intimate landscape'; as well as paintings, he also made etchings.
