The paintings of Raymond Queneau, poet, novelist and encyclopedia compiler, depict 'more or less arbitrary' figures, which people strange scenes, such as clowns in the circus ring and solitary dreamers in the streets at night. His watercolours were exhibited in Paris at the Artiste et Artisan Gallery in 1949,
