Jean-Pierre Raynaud started painting at evening classes in Paris in 1957 while studying at the École d'Horticulture de Versailles, from which he graduated in 1958. He travelled to the Far East, where he discovered the traditional ancestral use of ceramic tiles. He won the Grand Prix National
