Jean Joules Salmson's teachers were Dumont, Ramey and Toussaint. He made his Salon debut in 1859, and won second-class medals in 1863 and 1867; he was also made a Chevalier of the Légion d'Honneur in 1867. In 1876 the government of Geneva appointed
