Lazaros Sochos first took drawing lessons from the French master Guillemet in Constantinople (now Istanbul). He then went to Paris, where he worked under Cavelier and Antonin Mercié at the École des Beaux-Arts, and stayed in the city from 1881 to 1901, exhibiting at the Paris Expositions
