Charles Raoul Verlet was a pupil of Pierre Jules Cavelier, Louis Ernest Barrias, François Jouffroy, Millet and Édouard May. He exhibited for the first time in Paris at the Salon in 1880 and won a second-place medal and the Prix du Salon in 1887,
