French etcher. He studied at the Académie Julian in Paris and learnt to etch in 1891. His technical skill and quality of line were already apparent in 1892 in his first commissioned series, La Seine à Paris (Paris, 1892), which established his reputation. La Samaritaine (e.g. Paris, Bib. N., Cab. Est.) was widely acclaimed at the Peintres–Graveurs exhibition in Paris in 1893. His work included many etchings of the Seine and the quays and
