French painter and printmaker. He studied at the Académie Julian in Paris and trained under Alfred Roll and Pierre Puvis de Chavannes. In 1885 he went to Brittany and until 1913 spent several months there each year, often in winter, staying at Camaret where he accompanied fishermen to the islands of Sein and Ouessant and attended religious festivals in the area. Brittany is the subject of most of his work, in particular the Breton
