Hungarian painter and draughtsman. After a difficult childhood he studied first in Munich and Paris with the help of private sponsors, then from 1906 to 1908 he attended the Academy of Fine Arts in Budapest, where he had already exhibited (from 1901). His early works are naturalist in style, but some display a Secessionist tendency in the use of contours and flatly designated space (e.g. Prehistoric Age, 1910; priv. col., see 1971 exh.
