Italian humanist and writer. He took his surname from the village where he was born, which in the 15th century belonged to the domain of Giffoni near Salerno. In 1501 he moved to Venice and then to Padua, where he attended the university. After 1505 he left Padua and went first to Rome, then to Naples.
