Dalmatian painter active in Italy. He was the most important painter from Dalmatia (western Croatia) in the 15th century. In Italy, he usually signed his work Sclavonus (It. Schiavone: ‘the Slavonian’). It is generally agreed that his small secure oeuvre, which includes five signed works, was painted in Padua while he was training under Francesco Squarcione. Giorgio Schiavone is an important representative of the Paduan school and one of the few whose artistic personality
