German architect and sculptor. His name derives either from the town of Sinsheim, near Heilbronn, or the village of Sinzheim, near Baden-Baden. A citizen of Strasbourg from 1491 and Master of the Works at Strasbourg Cathedral in 1491–2, Sifer may be the ‘meister Conrat’ who was the sculptor of the Martyrdom of St Lawrence in the tympanum of the St Lawrence Portal (1500–01; destr.
