English patron and collector. His father, Edward Somerset, 2nd Marquess of Worcester, had supported Charles I in the Civil War, and consequently the position of the family was undermined. Henry Somerset was educated in Paris and returned to England in 1650. He celebrated his marriage in 1657 to Mary, widow of Henry Seymour, Lord Beauchamp, with a pair of portraits by Peter Lely (c. 1658; Badminton House, Avon). At the Restoration in 1660
