Italian architect. He came from a large family of masons and is first documented in Genoa in 1543 in connection with the early Renaissance palazzo of Antonio Doria, Acquasola. His independent work as an architect dates between c. 1556 and 1564, when he became part of the circle of Galeazzo Alessi, which created a new High Renaissance palace style for the Genoese patriciate and republic, particularly on the Strada Nuova (now Via Garibaldi; see
