Victor Barbizet (c. 1805–c. 1870), a Dijon merchant, established a pottery workshop in Dijon with his brother-in-law, Claude Ponet; they were later joined by Victor’s son Achille Barbizet (c. 1825–85). In 1851 the factory moved from Burgundy to Paris, where it continued to produce household wares, but also began to mass-produce crude copies of Palissy ceramics.
