(b Oporto, 27 June 1888; d Oporto, 31 July 1950). Portuguese cellist. After lessons with her father, she was playing publicly at the age of seven, leading the cellos in the Orpheon Portuense at 12. A royal scholarship took her to Leipzig in 1904 for study with Julius Klengel; in 1905 she joined the Gewandhaus Orchestra and appeared as a soloist under Nikisch. She worked and lived with Casals,
