American manufacturer of fretted stringed instruments. The Harmony Musical Instrument Company was started by Wilhelm J.F. Schultz (b Hamburg; d Chicago, IL, 1925) in 1892 in Chicago, Illinois. Harmony manufactured low- to middle-grade flattop guitars, mandolins, and banjos, providing many generations of musicians with inexpensive, but well made, instruments.

By about 1897 Harmony was supplying the catalog retailer Sears, Roebuck, & Co., of Chicago. Capitalizing on the popularity of Hawaiian music in 1915, Harmony
