(b Inverness, MS, 2 June 1935). American Composer and conductor. Receiving his undergraduate degree at Millsaps College, Jones earned his MA and PhD in composition at the Eastman School of Music, studying under howard Hanson. After graduating, he conducted several small orchestras before being appointed to the conducting staff of the Rochester PO (1965–72). Jones was selected by Rice University in 1973 to become the founding dean of Rice’s Shepherd
