(b Winchester, 8 April 1953). English mezzo-soprano. She studied in Manchester, then sang in the Glyndebourne chorus, making her solo début in 1977 as Zerlina with the Glyndebourne Touring Opera. While engaged at Covent Garden (1978–83) she sang Kate Pinkerton, Laura (Luisa Miller), the Lady Artist (Lulu), Annius, Parséis (Esclarmonde), Nicklausse and Cherubino, the last a role she has also sung with the ENO and
