Martin Shapiro, a political scientist (B.A., University of California, Los Angeles, 1955; Ph.D. Harvard, 1961), is the James W. and Isabel Coffroth Professor of Law at the University of California, Berkeley, School of Law, where he teaches in the Jurisprudence and Social Policy Program. He works in American and comparative constitutional, administrative, and regulatory law and politics; European Union law; and comparative law and politics, generally. His most recent book is (with Alec Stone Sweet) On Law, Politics and Judicialization (Oxford, 2002). His most recent articles concern comparative judicial review and independent agencies in the U.S. and the EU.
