Research into issues of inter-cultural conflict has paid relatively little attention to the position of children who find themselves caught up in such circumstances. When courts have needed to make decisions about individual children in this context, they have found it difficult to adopt a consistent and principled approach. This article examines the kinds of contexts in which some problems have arisen, and puts forward a framework, rooted in liberal theory, according to which they may be resolved.
