The focus of this chapter is the intersection of advanced practice nursing, aoutpatient oncology, and palliative care. It opens with a review of relevant evidence and national directives to integrate outpatient oncology and palliative care early in the illness course. Next, the different conceptual models for palliative care in oncology settings are explained. Finally, key categories of nursing intervention to relieve patient suffering, maintain collaborative relationships with the oncology team, and measure outcomes of practice are presented.

Since oncology care was the basis of much of palliative care, the oncology APRN has a wealth of knowledge to promote both primary and specialty palliative care for oncology patients.
