Chapter 20 discusses mainly the alcohol and toxin-related dementias, including alcohol-related dementia (ARD), and neuropathology entities related to toxin exposure is toxic leukoencephalopathy, which is a structural alteration of cerebral white matter wherein the myelin sheath suffers the most severe damage. Toxic leukoencephalopathy may be caused by exposure to a wide variety of agents, drugs of abuse, and environmental toxins.
