Small fiber neuropathy may present in an atypical pattern of asymmetric sensory symptoms. Nerve conduction studies are usually normal since this disorder affects the smaller unmyelinated fibers. Impaired glucose tolerance can be an etiological factor. Rational pain treatment for this condition is outlined.
