Case 24 introduces a 36-year-old woman who presented to the sleep clinic complaining of excessive daytime sleepiness (EDS), who also experienced episodes of paralysis after laughter or anger, as well as upon waking in the morning. Medical history included hypertension, and she took diltiazem and hydrochlorothiazide. There was no history of central nervous system infection or significant head injury predating her sleep problems. She avoided alcohol, tobacco, and recreational drugs. There was no family history of sleep disorders.
