Case 41 introduces a 14-year-old boy who presented to the sleep clinic for “incredibly loud groaning and moaning like a sick coyote” when sleeping, and which began at 8 years of age, and had gotten louder and deeper since his voice changed. Periods of moaning and groaning recurred several times every night for periods lasting 30 to 60 minutes, although the patient denied shortness of breath, restless legs, daytime sleepiness, or awareness of the sounds he made when sleeping.
